French Law Enforcement

Course Description

This class focuses on basic French terminology and phrases associated with car stops and other police actions when interacting with French-speaking drivers and passengers. This includes approaching a vehicle; requesting drivers license, insurance papers and registration papers; conducting a search of a vehicle; arresting a driver; and issuing basic traffic citations. The class also includes a one-hour cross-cultural component.

Course Objectives

The participants will be able to do the following in French:

  1. Greet and dismiss drivers and passengers
  2. Employ everyday courtesy phrases
  3. Request documentation
  4. Employ control commands commonly used in car stops
  5. Arrest someone
  6. Attend to emergency needs
  7. Search of vehicle
  8. Issue a traffic citation
